Prestigious translation prize to Dr. Sanda Tomescu Baciu
Dr. Sanda Tomescu Baciu was recently awarded the prestigious Romanian Eta Boeriu prize for the translation of the novel “Vizionare” (original title: “Visning”) by Lars Saabye Christensen. She was given prize on July 2 2015, at the Cluj Branch of the Writers’ Union of Romania.
The book is published by Univers Publishing House through NORLA’s translation subsidy.
Dr. Sanda Tomescu Baciu, who is also a professor, established and developed the Norwegian language and literature department (1991), the Nordic Studies Library (1997), both part of the Department of Scandinavian Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Philology of the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj. In 2003 she was awarded the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit in rank of Knight, class I. She was elected member of the International Ibsen Committee in two consecutive legislatures. She is the author of several articles and translations from Norwegian and Scandinavian literature and a manual for learning Norwegian and is currently director of the Department of Scandinavian Languages and Literatures and doctoral supervisor.
