Here are spring’s New Voices

NORLA is collaborating with Talent Norway and The Norwegian Publishers’ Association, on the talent development programme, New Voices.

The idea is that engagement with foreign business and readers will contribute to an awareness of, and open up new perspectives on, the participant’s own authorship. NORLA will also make provisions so that the programme can contribute towards new international opportunities and make the participants better equipped to present their books internationally over a long-term.

Cultivating new literary voices internationally is an important goal of the Frankfurt 2019 initiative, and New Voices will create a space for highlighting parts of the rich literary underground.

In the years leading up to 2019, during each semester, 5-6 writers will be invited to participate in a development programme focusing on the international dimension of the participant’s authorship.

NORLA’s approach to talent development lies in providing international experience; through travel, network strengthening, and raising awareness about the outwardly directed parts of the author’s work. NORLA utilizes its network of contacts to provide the authors with insights into the work of translators, presentation techniques, knowledge of international book markets, reception and criticism, as well as allowing participants to meet readers in other countries.

Spring’s New Voices have just been selected.

The group will consist of:

During the spring, the five participants will be offered courses and training in Oslo, and also the opportunity to put the training into practice, at festivals and book fairs. The participants are provided with individual programmes and will meet translators, publishers and audiences; in cities such as Leipzig, where all five authors will participate; London; Lviv (Ukraine); Cluj (Romania) and the Norwegian Literature Festival at Lillehammer. Some of the participants will also present themselves to German-language publishers who will be visiting Oslo, under the direction of NORLA, this spring.
