Application deadlines: 15th of January and 1st of August
Author and lecturer visits to institutions of higher learning in other countries
Staff at universities and institutions of higher learning abroad, where instruction is given in the Norwegian language, can apply for grants for author and lecturer visits. Visits by authors and lecturers from Norway are intended to serve as a supplement to the ordinary instruction.
Purpose:
The purpose is to strengthen Norwegian students’ opportunities as future translators.
Who can apply:
The application must, as a general rule, be submitted by the organizer abroad. In some case writers may apply, but an invitation from the organizer must then be attached.
What does the grant cover?
Normally a grant will only cover airline tickets (economy class) and other travel expenses (local trains/buses). Grants covering the fees of lecturers/authors who take part in events at foreign educational institutions/universities can also be applied for.
Although the scheme is primarily meant to strengthen Norwegian lessons and lectures which as a general rule should be held in Norwegian, in exceptional cases support may be granted for visits by Norwegian authors and lecturers who will also speak to those studying other subjects than Norwegian.
Grants for digital events can also be applied for.
Application deadlines:
15th of January and 1st of August
How to apply:
Applications must be submitted to NORLA via firmapost@norla.no
Annual budget:
150,000 Norwegian kroner (NOK).
The grant scheme is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Processing of applications:
Grants are paid in full to the applicant (organizer) in Norwegian kroner (NOK).
If the amount has been transferred and the project however does not take place, the recipient of the grant is obliged to immediately notify NORLA and return the amount received in full. If the awarded grant has not been fully used, the surplus amount must be returned. The recipient of the grant must disclose this in their report.
The grant recipient (not NORLA) is responsible for ordering tickets for participants, and NORLA does not require receipts.
Information about the event must state that it has received a grant from NORLA and NORLA’s logo must be displayed (download logo here).
The decision about the grant is made by NORLA’s expert committee, whose members are Andrine Pollen, Oliver Møystad and Tanja Feodoritova. When necessary, the expert committee can obtain external expertise.
Reporting:
The applicant is obliged to submit a report no later than two months after the event.
The report should highlight elements such as strengthened Norwegian language training, competence and the recruitment of translators. A template for the report can be downloaded here.
Applications can be rejected if reports from previously granted subsidies have not been received within the deadline.
