NORLA’s translation subsidies in 2025

In 2025, NORLA awarded a total of 478 translation grants for books translated into 53 languages, with overall funding exceeding NOK 10.3 million. Altogether, NORLA received 502 applications for translation support. The highest number of grants went to German and the Scandinavian languages.

Most Grants Awarded to German and Scandinavian Languages

German was the language that received the highest number of grants, followed by Swedish, Danish, Italian, and Arabic. French, Spanish, Dutch, Serbian, and Croatian were also among the languages with many translations.​​

Norwegian Authors Reaching More and More Readers

Among the most translated Norwegian authors in 2025 were Jon Fosse, Karl Ove Knausg​å​rd, J​ø​rn Lier Horst, and Jo Nesb​ø​. Children​’​s and YA authors Maria Parr and Bj​ø​rn F. R​ø​rvik were also among the writers receiving the highest number of translations during the year.​​

Strong Interest in Literature for Children and Young Adults

Of the total 478 grants awarded, 138 went to children​’​s and young adult literature. NORLA also supported 28 translations of illustrated non-fiction and 78 picture books.​​

The translations demonstrate the strong international interest in Norwegian literature ​— including fiction, non-fiction, and literature for children and young adults ​— and confirm that Norwegian voices are reaching an ever-growing readership around the world.​​
