We are very pleased that Norway will be the Guest of Honour at the world’s largest children’s and young adult book fair, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, in 2026. Norwegian children’s and young adult literature is rich in both expression and genres and addresses a wide range of themes that engage readers of all ages. The Guest of Honour programme offers a unique opportunity to showcase this breadth and bring our stories to the world.
NORLA wishes to contribute to the recruitment of more translators of Norwegian literature. We invite interested candidates to apply for a seminar for new translators, to be held in Oslo from 22–25 April 2026.
NORLA annually hands out an award to a talented emerging translator of Norwegian literature. The award is given for translations directly from Norwegian as an encouragement towards continued efforts.
The 2026 award will be given to a translator of non-fiction.
We would very much like to hear from you about deserving candidates!
We look forward to welcoming up to five translators of Norwegian literature to Oslo, to stay at our Translator Hotel, May 11-24.
Please note that the offer is only available for translators who translate directly from Norwegian, and who have translated at least two titles.

NORLA is looking forward to gathering ten translators of Norwegian literature in Lillehammer on June 2-5, as we do annually for the Norwegian Festival of Literature / Sigrid Undset Days.
This year’s festival theme of the program is Europe, and festival runs from June 1 through June 7.
NORLA has the pleasure of inviting foreign publishers and editors of non-ficiton literature to apply for our fellowship program, which this year will take place in Oslo from June 16 – 19.
NORLA administrates the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ scheme for travel grants for authors and lecturers who will visit institutions of higher learning abroad where instruction is given in the Norwegian language.
Publishers, agents and translators abroad and in Norway can apply to NORLA for subsidies for sample translations.
