Norway was Guest of Honour at the Cairo International Book Fair 2024, January 26 – February 6.
We greatly enjoyed presenting a broad and attractive programme, targeting both a general audience and the book industry.

Two weeks filled with Norwegian literature in Cairo

From 24 January to 6 February 2024, Norway was a Guest of Honour at the Cairo International Book Fair. The fair, which is primarily a public event, had close to 5 million visitors and the press attention surrounding the Norwegian authors in the program was enormous. A total of 20 authors, translators and professionals from Norway participated. The Norwegian Guest of Honour program comprised 70 events, and was opened by HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

Program

NORLA and our project partners had the pleasure of presenting a series of prominent Norwegian literary authors and illustrators who together reflected the broad variety of Norwegian literature.
The program stretched over 13 days and fills many stages. Each day, a Norwegian author and their literary works were put in focus. Many of the authors who participated in the literary program were newly published by Egyptian or other Arabic publishers.

NORLA aims to contribute to the recruitment of more translators from Norwegian to Arabic. As part of Norway’s Guest of Honour project, we organized three different translator seminars. Here you can read more about the first, second, and third seminars.
