Mohamad Al Mofty
Mohamad Al Mofty is an Iraqi-Norwegian author and translator, living in Norway. He fled Mosul, Iraq, in 1997, and has since written a range of non-fiction titles in Norwegian and Arabic. Den mørke dansen (2023) (eng. The Dark Dance) is his first novel, set at the time when the terrorist organization IS took over Mosul in 2014. Parts of Mohamad Al Mofty’s close family lived in the area during the attack, and after a while Mofty travelled to Mosul in order to see them. The main character in his book is doing the same, exploring his old country in a challenging time. Den mørke dansen is available in Arabic on Al Arabi, translated by the author himself, and is a stark portrait of a country under threat, a family in crisis and their strong relations to Norway.
Muhammad Al Mofty will be present at several events during the book fair, speaking about his book and his experiences from both Norway and Iraq.
Mohamad Al Mofty participates in the Guest of Honor program under the auspices of the Norwegian Institute for Children’s Books (NBI) – NORLA’s partner in the Guest of Honor project.
