36 Norwegian Authors to Germany

From March 26 to 30, 2025, Norway will be the Guest of Honour at Leipziger Buchmesse, Germany’s largest public book fair.

Over the course of four days, NORLA will fill stages at the Leipzig Messe, and in the city itself, with a rich and varied program, where Norwegian authors and literature will have the leading role. Nearly 40 authors have accepted the invitation to participate in Leipzig, including prominent names like Vigdis Hjorth, Johan Harstad, Karl Ove Knausgård, Anna Fiske, Trude Teige, and Kristin Valla. These authors represent literature for both adults and children, in all genres.

The German market is the most important for Norwegian literary exports. Guest of Honour status in Leipzig gives Norwegian books and Norwegian authors a unique opportunity to reach German readers. The Leipzig Book Fair draws nearly 300,000 visitors each year and is the most important spring gathering in the German book industry. The event is covered by over 3,500 journalists and bloggers. It coincides with the Leipzig liest festival, Europe’s largest reading festival, featuring 3,000 events with 3,200 authors at 350 different locations throughout the fair and the city of Leipzig. The full Norwegian program will be announced in January 2025.

In addition to the 36 confirmed authors, more will be added. In the run-up to the Guest of Honour presentation in Leipzig, NORLA will invite even more Norwegian authors to various events in Germany. Work is also underway on an expanded program during the book fair itself in collaboration with several representatives from the Norwegian literary and cultural field.
