NORLA’s Selected Titles Autumn 2026
An autumn in motion! People travel out into the world and return home, memories and family histories move between generations, and the world around us is constantly changing. There is a great deal of movement in NORLA’s 25 Selected Titles this autumn, across fiction, non-fiction, and literature for children and young adults.
Several of NORLA’s Selected Titles this autumn revolve around questions of where we come from and where we belong. In Siste tango hjem / Last Tango Home. The Search for Belonging, Long Litt Woon explores home and identity across countries and cultures, while Maria Navarro Skaranger’s Jeg kommer hjem! / I’m Coming Home! and Tyra Teodora Tronstad’s Folk som hater lokalhistorie / People Who Hate Local History, each in their own way, return to family, origins, and the past. In Sáve fra Sápmi / Sáve from Sápmi, Sámi tradition encounters a present in flux. Belonging, and the experience of being an outsider, also surface in several of this autumn’s books for children and young adults.
How is the past remembered and told?
The past is ever-present, but so too is the question of how it is remembered and told. Truth and lies are treated with humour in Rabalder snakker sant / Frenzy Speaks the Truth and Stella seier sanninga (stort sett) / Stella Tells the Truth (Mostly), while Koster / Koster, Et øye lukket / One Eye Closed, and Det er ingen som passer på oss / No One is Looking Out for Us show how uncertain a story can become when memories, secrets, and different versions of reality collide.
An invitation to look at the world around us and within us
Other books invite us to take a closer look at the world around us—and within us. This autumn’s non-fiction ranges from the microscopic universe of cells to animals, grass, and glaciers, while also reaching back in time to the wisdom of Håvamål. Nature, history, and human life are viewed from new angles, often taking as their point of departure something we think we already know.
Surprising connections
Geographically and literarily, too, these books cover great distances: from Sápmi to Buenos Aires, from a Norwegian local community to a Japanese dream world, from the Viking Age to the digital present. Much of the pleasure of this autumn’s selection lies precisely in this breadth: 25 very different books, with surprising connections between the and many possible paths leading onwards into the world.
