Petter Bøckman - Selected Title Author
We are happy to present our selected title author Petter Bøckman. He has written Animals Like Us (original title: Oss dyr imellom). The book is one of NORLA’s Selected Titles of the autumn 2024.
What is your book about?
My book is about animals: creatures great and small, strange critters and ordinary beasts – but it is also about us humans. I have written about what animals do and why, and therefore why we do what we do, because humans too are an animal species, a species with its own quirks and idiosyncratic behaviour.
What inspired you to write this book?
Throughout the years I have been asked to write articles for popular magazines and give talks on various animal topics – so this is a collection of these pieces. I wrote what is now the first chapter almost two decades ago, when my oldest was just a baby.
Who’s the book for then?
The book is written for anyone and everyone with an interest in the peculiarities of the animal world and what makes creatures tick. It is an adult book, but to check its readability I forced my 15-year-old to plough through it, and she has reported that it is highly readable. It’s not a children’s book though.
