What inspired you to write this book?

Celebrity Crush is the first book in a trilogy that poses the question: What happens when the person you’re in love with becomes the most famous person in the country? Writing a story about this is something I’ve wanted to do for many years. I have worked in the management of several young stars with thousands of fans, among them the pop duo Marcus&Martinus, and I’ve used that experience writing these books. Even though none of the events are taken directly from real life, it’s been fun to sketch as realistic a picture as possible of something that could’ve happened! Additionally, in Celebrity Crush, the three main characters, Karoline, Norah and Mathias, spend a whole summer vacation in a pretty out of the way location, a camping ground. I’ve also drawn inspiration from reality here; I had a summer job at that exact camping ground for many years when I was younger.

What sets this book apart from other books in the same genre and/or with similar themes?

There are very many good YA novels written about serious, dystopian and challenging themes. But the whole point of Celebrity Crush, and the rest of the trilogy, is that it is something entirely different. The book is a light, romantic and hopefully funny read. My only goal is to offer an escape from reality for the younger reader – a book to dream their way into. There are enough things to worry about in the real world, if you ask me. Celebrity Crush is written to be purely feel good, and the biggest compliment I can get from a reader is that it made them feel all tingly inside!
