News about our Guest of Honour projects
At NORLA, we are working intensively on Norway’s two Guest of Honour projects, which will take place at the Leipzig Book Fair in 2025 and the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2026. In the coming months, we look forward to many exciting events related to these initiatives.
Leipzig 2025
Planning for Norway as the Guest of Honour at the Leipzig Book Fair next year is well underway. During the Kapittel Festival in Stavanger – which opened yesterday and runs until September 22 – the German-Norwegian program series titled Auf dem Weg nach Leipzig (On the Way to Leipzig) will be presented. This is a kind of festival within the festival, organized by Kapittel in collaboration with the Norwegian-German Willy Brandt Foundation and the Goethe-Institut. NORLA is partner.
The program showcases German literature to Norwegian readers, aiming to foster discussions on literature and current social issues in Norway and in Germany/Switzerland/Austria through meetings between Norwegian and German-language authors. Some of the featured literary conversations include pairings such as Charlotte Greuß with Marie Aubert, Christoph Ransmayr with Erik Fosnes Hansen, Simon Strauss with Simon Stranger, and Judith Hermann with Monika Isakstuen. In addition, several other authors will participate in various Norwegian-German program events.

On Tuesday, September 17, eight international non-fiction editors arrived in Norway to participate in NORLA’s fellowship program in Oslo and Stavanger. Yesterday, they met with non-fiction editors and authors in Oslo, and today, the group travels to Stavanger and Kapittel to participate in the festival, meet authors, get to know the city, and enjoy a boat trip on Lysefjorden.

Bologna 2026
The Norwegian Guest of Honour project for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair is in its early stages and is being developed in many areas. We are pleased to recently have held a Norwegian-Italian book trade meeting in Oslo, September 9-11, where Norwegian and Italian editors met during a varied and social programme. The event was a collaboration between the Italian Cultural Institute and NORLA.

In December, there will be a Norwegian program at the Rome Book Fair, and we will be able to share more details in due course.
