Peder Hornseth Nygaard - Selected Title Author
We are happy to present our selected title author Peder Hornseth Nygaard. He has written Supernova. The book is one of NORLA’s Selected Titles of the autumn 2025.

What is your book about?
At its core, Supernova is about finding yourself in a world without clear answers. Humanity is teetering on the edge of survival and extinction in a post-apocalyptic society where a disease called “heart sleep” has caused the human heart to stop beating. Specialized hunters must leave civilization and venture out into the infamous “death zone” to track down “makina” – mysterious mechanical creatures – since the blood from their hearts can be used to keep human hearts beating, at least temporarily.
One day, Finn, an aging hunter, is out in the forest when he comes across a little girl, Nova. He immediately has all kinds of questions: how has she managed to survive so far out in the death zone? How did she get there? Finn quickly becomes responsible for getting them both back to safety, but as dark secrets and memories from the past come to light, the line between right and wrong proves far harder to draw than it used to be.
What inspired you to write this book?
It might actually be easier to answer what hasn’t inspired me to write this book, since I often feel like a sponge that absorbs inspiration from every direction, whether in the form of music, film, video games, books, or other comics.
More concretely, I would say I draw a lot of inspiration from the Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag, whose works blend science fiction and realism in a way rarely encountered elsewhere. Beyond that, I’ve always been drawn to stories that focus on the human experience and that ask questions about our identity and our place in the world.
At the same time, I think this book ultimately stems from something less tangible, something closer to a mood or a feeling – a feeling you might have when standing alone on an open plain, the world stretched out before your feet, searching for something that resonates with the rhythm of your own heartbeat.
