Frode Granhus

The Storm

Stormen

During a storm filled night in Reine in Lofoten a huge stone block comes loose and ploughs a deep gully in the mountain side. The landslide covers what at first glance looks to be a pile of old bones. Small bones…

A figure that at one time resembled a person, lies in the old people’s home in the village. Fire took away his sight, his ability to speak and for the most part his ability to move. The pain is constant, but he lives. Unfortunately, he is not able to say that the pain is getting worse, that an unknown enemy ensures his existence gets just that little bit worse, day after day. That the danger is greatest exactly here, where he ought to be safest.

Who is the burnt man? And the child who was killed such a long time ago? Detective Inspector Rino Carlsen is called to help with the case, and he realizes early on that the local officer needs all the help he can get.

With his characteristic ability to create a sinister atmosphere Frode Granhus has once again written a crime story that is impossible to put down before the last page is read. The intense and unpredictable North Norwegian nature creates a backdrop for an ice cold and forceful intrigue, which continuously surprises both the reader and the police officer Rino Carlson that many readers will know from The Maelstrom.

Praise:
“The story is told effectively in 84 small chapters, with several narrators and points of views. The story ends in a fierce storm, and the reader barely manages to comprehend who’s who and what and who is the culprit, before Granhus sneaks in new openings. Well done! “ 5 stars.
