Better Learning For All Students

Bedre læring for alle elever

What can be done at school to achieve better learning for all students?
The authors write about what characterizes the school and the learning benefits of different types of students, as well as what is special about the education they receive in elementary and highschool. They also show what the teacher can do to achieve better results at school.
Many students struggle to learn at school at the same time as they have other problems during the school day. We can see this in that fact that an increasing number of students receive special education support. The students’ challenges and problems can be viewed as an expression of the fact that the quality of both the special education and ordinary teaching is not good enough.
Even though the book is research-based and the majority of the chapters build upon empirical data, the authors present the material in an accessible manner for those who are not researchers.
The target group for this book is teachers of both elementary and highschool and students of pedagogy and education.

Thomas Nordahl (1958) is Professor of Pedagogy and leader of the Center for Practice-directed Research in Education, SePU, at Hedmark University College. He has previously worked as researcher at NOVA (Norwegian Institute for Research on Upbringing, Welfare and Aging), and is currently project leader for several larger research projects connected to preschool, elementary school and high-school education in both Norway and Denmark. He has written several books and articles about different pedagogical topics and is a popular lecturer.

It is the employees at the Center for Practice-directed Research on Education who have written the articles in the book. SePU is a research center with a mandate covering work on pedagogical practice and for practice. The aim is to participate actively in preschools and schools in order to develop knowledge about what promotes learning and development in children and youth. SePU conducts an array of research and development projects at the communal, county and state levels in Norway, and in Denmark.
