Poem of the Week, week 2: Carl Keilhau "Loved"

Enjoy a weekly poem by authors from Norway, throughout the year.

LOVED

With every step I sink deep in soft snow.
The circle around the street lamp is white, white!
My hair is wet silk. My shoulders glitter.
No daylight. But the Milky Way is sprinkled down
                                                              the lamppost.

Oh, wonderful night! The burning sun of my brow
kisses a shower of cold, delicious stars.
The park is a forest where my steps are the first.
It is I who am walking here. I! Loved by her!

Carl Keilhau (1919-1957)

Translated by Inga Wilhelmsen Allwood and Martin S. Allwood in 20th Century Scandinavian Poetry, Sweden, 1950, p. 186.
