AUTUMN

There is autumn in your eyes,
autumn where I winter see –
Shooting star! And look, a snowflake – – –
That has come, which had to be!

Darling, all defies its death,
all shall grow a second time –
and your kisses’ crimson roses
outlive winter in my rhyme.

Olaf Bull (1883-1933)

Translated by Martin S. Allwood in 20th Century Scandinavian Poetry, Sweden, 1950, p. 125.
