Application deadlines: The 1st of each month
Travel grants for Norwegian authors
Literature festivals, publishers or other organizers of literary events in other countries can apply for grants for authors visiting from Norway.
Purpose:
The purpose is to increase demand, interest and visibility for Norwegian authors and Norwegian literature internationally.
Who can apply?
As a general rule, the application must be submitted by the organizer in the other country. In some case writers may apply, but an invitation from the organizer must then be included.
What does the grant cover?
Grants will normally only cover airfare (economy class) and other transport costs (local trains/buses). The grant does not cover fees.
Application deadlines:
The 1st of each month.
Applications must be submitted at least one month before the event is to take place. All applications are processed in monthly meetings.
Annual budget:
NOK 650,000.
The grant scheme is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
How to apply:
Applications must be submitted to NORLA via firmapost@norla.no.
Processing of applications:
The grant is paid in full to the applicant (organizer) in Norwegian kroner (NOK).
If the amount has been transferred and the project however does not take place, the recipient of the grant is obliged to immediately notify NORLA and return the amount received in full. If the awarded grant has been only partly used, the surplus amount must be returned. The recipient of the grant must disclose this in their report.
The grant recipient (not NORLA) is responsible for ordering tickets for participants, and NORLA does not require receipts.
Information about the event must state that it has received a grant from NORLA and display the NORLA logo (download logo here).
The decision about the grant is made by NORLA’s expert committee, whose members are Andrine Pollen, Oliver Møystad and Tanja Feodoritova. When necessary, the expert committee can obtain external expertise.
Reporting:
The applicant is obliged to submit a report following the activity, which must be no later than two months after the activity ends. A report template can be downloaded below.
The report should cover aspects such as media attention and audience numbers.
Applications can be rejected if reports from previously granted subsidies have not been received within the deadline.
Other funding available
NORLA also administrates funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Norwegian authors/lecturers travelling on visits to institutions of higher learning abroad where the Norwegian language is taught.
