NORLA at the Beijing Book Fair, 26−30 August
For the second year in a row the Nordic region will be taking part with a joint stand at the Beijing book fair, in collaboration with our sister organizations from Sweden and Denmark.

This year NORLA is also organizing a seminar specifically for Norwegian-Chinese translators in conjunction with the book fair.

Opening of season three of NORLA’s translators hotel, 07 September
At NORLA we are pleased about the overwhelming response to our offer of stays at the translators hotel for translators who translate directly from Norwegian. This autumn four lucky applicants will be awarded two-week stays simultaneously in Oslo at Hotell Bondeheimen.
This will be the translators hotel’s third season. You can read some of the fantastic feedback on previous seasons here.

NORLA to publishers meeting in Madrid, 24 September
The Norwegian embassy in Madrid is organizing, in cooperation with translators Cristina Gomez Baggethun and Bente Teigen Gundersen, a publishers meeting on the theme of Norwegian literature for children and young people. From NORLA, Senior Advisor Dina Roll-Hansen will attend.

This year’s Book & Library Fair in Göteborg is underway and you will find NORLA at the International Rights Centre, at tables 63 and 64.

Publishers, agents and translators abroad and in Norway can apply to NORLA for subsidies for sample translations.
The translation must be directly from Norwegian. Sample translations of NORLA’s selected titles- will be given priority.

Awarding of NORLA’s Translator’s Award 01 October
During the celebration in Oslo of St. Hieronymus Day, International Translation Day, we will announce the winner of NORLA’s Translator’s Award. The award will be conferred for the 10th time this year and will go to a fiction translator.

NORLA to meet publishers from the Netherlands in The Hague, 06 October
The Netherlands have long been an important market for Norwegian books. In collaboration with the Norwegian embassy in The Hague and translator Paula Stevens, NORLA is organizing for the fourth time an exclusive half-day seminar at the embassy that is designed for a select group of publishers from the Netherlands and Flanders. The focus for the year’s seminar is crime fiction. The three previous seminar have introduced Norwegian fiction, non-fiction and literature for children and young adults.

For the first time NORLA will take part in the book fair in Shanghai, which in its entirety is dedicated to literature for children and young people. Norwegian publishers/agents will also take part and we are looking forward to meeting contacts both new and old at the joint Nordic stand H2 C21!

Translation workshop in Calcutta, 23 November
NORLA cooperates with Seagull School of Publishing about a seminar on translation to/from Indian languages. The seminar will take place in the end of November, starting November 23rd.
Norwegian writer Pedro Carmona-Alvarez and translator Diane Oatley will participate and work together with the translators on an excerpt from Pedro’s book “The Weather changed, Summer came, and so on”. Diane’s English text will be used as a basis for translations into Indian languages.
This is the first time the Seagull School arranges a workshop for translation.

NORLA to attend Moscow Book Fair, 25−29 November
NORLA will also be taking part this year in the Non/fiction-book fair in Moscow 25−29.11. Please contact us to schedule meetings with NORLA during the book fair in Moscow.
This year the Norwegian author and paleontologist Jørn Hurum will visit the bookfair to present the award-winning book Ida, written together with Torstein Helleve and illustrated by Esther van Hulsen.
The book is translated by Svetlana Karpushina and published by Peshkombooks through translation- and production subsidy from NORLA.

NORLA to attend book fair in Guadalajara, Mexico, 30 November−2 December
NORLA will take part, like last year, in the book fair in Guadalajara, together with some of our Nordic sister organizations.

Focus on Norwegian fiction in Sweden, 01 December
The Norwegian embassy in Stockholm, the Norwegian Publishers Association and NORLA continue their collaboration on the promotion of Norwegian literature in Sweden. This year for the third time an exclusive mini-seminar is being organized for Swedish publishers and this year’s seminar is dedicated to Norwegian fiction. The two previous seminars focused on literature for children and young people, and non-fiction.
Alberte Bremberg, editor of the literary magazine Bokvennen, will give an introduction to Norwegian contemporary literature. The two authors Birger Emanuelsen (who this autumn published Historien om et godt menneske, Tiden, 2015) and Helga Flatland (who this autumn published Vingebelastning, Aschehoug, 2015) will introduce themselves and their oevre. The seminar participants will also meet Norwegian literary agents.

NORLA administrates the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ scheme for travel grants for authors and lecturers who will visit institutions of higher learning abroad where instruction is given in the Norwegian language.
Please note that there are new application deadlines in 2025, with three deadlines in total, for Norwegian books in all genres:
1 February, 1 June and 1 October.
