About the project

In 2019, Norway was Guest of Honour at the Frankfurter Buchmesse. As Guest of Honour Norway organised an extensive literary and cultural programme throughout 2019. Both in the German speaking area as well as internationally and in Norway. The project culminated at the Frankfurter Buchmesse in October 2019.

The motto for the project was ‘The Dream We Carry’. It derives from a poem by Olav H. Hauge. It expresses the wish we have that Norwegian literature and arts will open doors to and hearts of an international audience.

Wendy H. Gabrielsen - Translator of the Month for February

Originally from London, Wendy H. Gabrielsen moved to Oslo after completing an MA in translation in 1987, and was lucky enough to translate her first two Norwegian books just two years later. After getting “sidetracked” teaching English for a couple of decades, she resigned from the French School in Oslo in 2020 and has since returned to translating and copy editing full time.

Poem of the Week. 52 poems through the year

Poem of the Week is back!

In 2019, NORLA launched the project, Poem of the Week, 52 poems throughout the year, in connection with Norway being Guest of Honour at the Frankfurter Buchmesse, where modern and older poetry was presented every week to an attentive international audience.
We are now continuing our focus on poetry with a new series, Poem of the Week, which, as it did last time, follows a narrative linked to the seasons. The selection is made by Annette Vonberg.
