NORLA to meet Nordic colleagues January 21st to 24th
Parts of NORLA’s staff will be out of office January 21 to 24, while we attend a seminar with our Nordic colleagues.
German-Norwegian-German translators’ seminar in Berlin, 26-30 January
A unique seminar called ViceVersa will take place in Berlin at the end of January, where a group of translators working from Norwegian to German will meet with a group working from German to Norwegian in a whole week of in-depth translation work!

Six Norwegian comic book artists and NORLA will attend the Angouleme international comics festival, France 29 January-1 February.

Gert Nygårdshaug attends Le Salon du livre and Quais du Polar
Gert Nygårdshaug will travel to France and Belgium on the occation of the launch of his book Himmelblomsttreet in French. He will attend debates, book signings, and two book fairs: Le Salon du livre in Paris and Quais du Polar in Lyon.

NORLA to the London Book Fair
NORLA will take part in the London Book Fair at Olympia, and you will find us at the Nordic stand; 6F70. We are looking forward to meeting both contacts of old and new!

Meet Gunnar Staalesen, Herbjørg Wassmo and Stian Hole at Les Escapades littéraires, in Draguignan.
Ivo de Figueiredo in the Czech republic
Ivo de Figueiredo will visit Brno (April 22) and Prague (April 25), on the occasion of the launch of the Czech translation of his critically acclaimed book Henrik Ibsen. The Man and the Mask.
NORLA to attend Nordic children’s book seminar in Denmark
Together with its Nordic sister offices NORLA is arranging a children’s book seminar to take place 4−5 May at Schæffergården in Copenhagen, Denmark. The purpose of the seminar is to strengthen the exchange and translation of literature for children and young people between the Nordic languages. Editors, researchers, critics and others from all of the Nordic countries will attend. The seminar is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Translators seminar in Istanbul
In collaboration with the Norwegian embassy in Ankara, NORLA will present for the first time a seminar in Istanbul for translators from Norwegian to Turkish!
Book event in New York in conjunction with launch of Knausgård’s "My Struggle IV"
Karl Ove Knausgård’s My Struggle IV will be launched in San Francisco and New York in the beginning of May. Knausgård is also on the PEN Festival programme in New York. NORLA’s Senior Adviser Andrine Pollen will participate in several of the scheduled sessions.
Norwegian-American literature festival in New York
NORLA is also contributing funding to a Norwegian-American literature festival being organised in New York to take place 21−23 May.
The Norwegian Festival of Literature in Lillehammer
NORLA will be at the Norwegian Festival of Literature in Lillehammer May 25-31.
Norwegian Explorers - a seminar at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj
Meet Jan Erik Holst and Robert Ferguson, in addition to Prof. dr. Corin Braga, Norwegian Embassador Tove Bruvik Westberg and Prof. dr. Sanda Tomescu Baciu.
The two films “Ragnarok” and “Frozen Heart” will also be shown as part of the seminar.
Translators seminar in St. Petersburg
In collaboration with the university and Consulate General in St. Petersburg, NORLA is organising a translators seminar 2−3 June at the Norwegian University Center in the city. Norwegian authors Jon Øystein Flink and Geir Pollen will take part. NORLA’s Director Margit Walsø and Senior Adviser Dina Roll-Hansen also participate in the seminar.
Seoul International Book Fair has unfortunately been cancelled!
The Seoul International Book Fair is cancelled due to precautions regarding the ongoing virus epidemic.
For the first time, NORLA was to attend Seoul International Book Fair, along with authors Tom Egeland, Kari Stai and Arne & Carlos. Knitting is extremely popular in South Korea, and Arne & Carlos were even announced as guest authors by the book fair.

NORLA at the Beijing Book Fair
For the second year in a row NORLA is taking part with a joint Nordic stand at the Beijing book fair, in collaboration with our sister organizations from Sweden and Denmark. You will find us at stand no. E2.H28.

Third season of NORLA’s translators hotel
At NORLA we are pleased about the overwhelming response to our offer of stays at the translators hotel for translators who translate directly from Norwegian. This autumn four lucky applicants have been awarded two-week stays simultaneously in Oslo at Hotell Bondeheimen. This will be the translators hotel’s third season.

NORLA to publishers meeting in Madrid
The Norwegian embassy in Madrid is organizing, in cooperation with translators Cristina Gomez Baggethun and Bente Teigen Gundersen, a publishers meeting on the theme of Norwegian literature for children and young people. From NORLA, Senior Advisor Dina Roll-Hansen will attend.
Lars Mytting in the UK
Meet Lars Mytting, the author of one of the greatest non-fiction publishing successes in Scandinavia ever: the non-fiction book Norwegian Wood (original title: Hel ved, 2011). In 15 months, over 200 000 copies of the book were sold in Norway and Sweden. And foreign rights are sold to several countries.
Karl Ove Knausgård in Germany
Meet Karl Ove Knausgård on tour, presenting volume five of his My Struggle-series. The novel is translated into German by Paul Berf and published by Bertelsmann through translation subsidy from NORLA.
Application deadline for sample translation of Norwegian literature
Publishers, agents and translators abroad and in Norway can apply to NORLA for subsidies for sample translations.
The translation must be directly from Norwegian. Sample translations of NORLA’s selected titles- will be given priority.

We would remind foreign publishers of the possibility to apply for translation subsidies through NORLA for the publication of Norwegian books.

During the celebration in Oslo of St. Hieronymus Day, International Translation Day, we will announce the winner of NORLA’s Translator’s Award.
NORLA to meet publishers from the Netherlands in The Hague
The Netherlands have long been an important market for Norwegian books. In collaboration with the Norwegian embassy in The Hague and translator Paula Stevens, NORLA is organizing for the fourth time an exclusive half-day seminar at the embassy that is designed for a select group of publishers from the Netherlands and Flanders.

Meet Carl Frode Tiller at the event Buch des Monats at the Norwegian Embassy in Berlin.
Tiller will be reading from his award-winning novel Kennen Sie diesen Mann? (Norwegian title: Innsirkling), along with his translator Ina Kronenberger. The book is published is German through translation subsidy by NORLA.
NORLA to attend Frankfurt Book Fair
NORLA will as usual be taking part in the Frankfurt book fair. You may find us at the joint Norwegian stand: Hall 5.0 A57.
On Wednesday 14 October the Norwegian Minister of Culture, Mrs Thorhild Widvey, will visit the book fair in cooperation with NORLA. This autumn, the Norwegian government will ask the Norwegian Parliament to pledge NOK 25 million towards enabling Norway to apply for Guest of Honour status at the Frankfurt book fair in 2019.

Kjartan Fløgstad, Gabi Gleichmann and Kirsti Baggethun to Chile
The international Chilean book fair, Feria Internacional del Libro de Santiago, this year focuses on the Nordic countries, Nórdicos en FILSA. The fair takes place 22 October + 8. November.
Norwegian authors Kjartan Fløgstad and Gabi Gleichmann take part, as well as Kirsti Baggethun, author and translator of Norwegian literature into Spanish. Also musicians Christina Sandsengen, Moddi and Terje Evensen are part of the rich festival program which also includes several art exhibitions, films etc.

Hanne Ørstavik in Cyprus
Meet critically acclaimed author Hanne Ørstavik at the international literary festival in Nicosia. More than 20 international authors and poets will participate in a series of readings, musical events, round table discussions and more.
NORLA to attend Shanghai Children's Book Fair
For the first time NORLA will take part in the international book fair in Shanghai, which in its entirety is dedicated to literature for children and young people. Magikon forlag will also take part and we are looking forward to meeting contacts both new and old at the joint Nordic stand H2 C21!
We also look forward to take part in the launch of the Chinese edition of award-winning children’s book Brune (Brown), along with the author Håkon Øvreås and illustrator Øyvind Torseter. Read more about the book and the wave of Norwegian books being published in Chinese here.

Prof. Eivind Tjønneland, University of Bergen will be giving two lectures on Knut Hamsun at the Babes-Bolay University in Cluj.
Jørgen Lorentzen in Belgrade
Jørgen Lorentzen, professor of Gender Studies, will present his book “The History of Fatherhood in Norway” for a Serbian audience, at an event hosted by Scandinavian Corner.
Tomas Espedal to open Nordic Literature Days in Hamburg
Every other year the Literaturhaus in Hamburg offers Nordic Literature Days, and since the start in 1986 the festival has presented an impressive list of Nordic authors. This year, Norwegian author Tomas Espedal will officially open the 15th event.
Translator seminar in Archangel
NORLA will take part in a translators seminar organized by the Norwegian Consulate General of Murmansk, the University of Archangel and the Archangel Regional Library on November 23-24.
NORLA and Jørn Hurum to attend Moscow Book Fair
NORLA will also be taking part this year in the Non/fiction-book fair in Moscow 25−29.11. Please contact us to schedule a meeting.
This year the Norwegian author and paleontologist Jørn Hurum will visit the bookfair to present the award-winning book “Ida”, written together with Torstein Helleve and illustrated by Esther van Hulsen.
The book is translated by Svetlana Karpushina and published by Peshkombooks through translation- and production subsidy from NORLA.

Elin Grimstad in Delhi
Meet the Sun and the Moon – and author/illustrator Elin Grimstad who has made a beautifully illustrated book about them, in several events at the Bookaroo festival in Delhi, India. See below for details.
The book is available in English, Bengali and Hindi – all published by Sampark Publishing through subsidies from NORLA.

Focus on Norwegian fiction in Sweden
The Norwegian embassy in Stockholm, the Norwegian Publishers Association and NORLA continue their collaboration on the promotion of Norwegian literature in Sweden. This year for the third time an exclusive mini-seminar is being organized for Swedish publishers and this year’s seminar is dedicated to Norwegian fiction.
The two previous seminars focused on literature for children and young people, and non-fiction.
Alberte Bremberg, editor of the literary magazine Bokvennen, will give an introduction to Norwegian contemporary literature. The two authors Birger Emanuelsen (who this autumn published Historien om et godt menneske, Tiden, 2015) and Helga Flatland (who this autumn published Vingebelastning, Aschehoug, 2015) will introduce themselves and their oevre.
