Application deadline: Translation grants for Norwegian contemporary drama

The Writers’ Guild of Norway (in Norwegian: Dramatikerforbundet) may award grants for the translation of Norwegian dramatic works to other languages. The primary purpose of the grant scheme is to contribute to the presentation/production of Norwegian drama abroad.

New Voices Authors to book trade meeting in The Hague

The participants in NORLA’s New Voices program will this autumn put into practice what they have learned during the workshops, and meet publishers and/or readers in real life. The goal is to support the sale and dissemination of their books into more languages – on the way to Bologna.

At a book trade meeting in The Hague, New Voices authors Julia Kahrs and Cathrine Sandmæl will give presentations. In addition, Norwegian agents will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Dutch publishing industry.

The event is organized in collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in The Hague.

Publishers, agents and translators abroad and in Norway can apply to NORLA for subsidies for sample translations.

Book Trade Meeting in Tokyo and Nordic Author Presentations at the World Expo in Osaka

The Nordic embassies are joining forces to create a shared Nordic pavilion at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. As part of this, a literary program will be presented:
Saturday, August 30, will be dedicated to children’s and young adult literature, while Sunday, August 31, will focus on crime fiction. From Norway, Jørn Lier Horst and Mariko Miyata-Jancey will take part.

In addition, the Norwegian Embassy is hosting a book trade meeting in Tokyo on Friday, August 29, featuring a panel discussion and networking session. Yukiko Duke is involved in shaping the joint Nordic program and will also serve as moderator. Andrine Pollen from NORLA will also take part in the trade meeting.

Application deadline: Author and lecturer visits to institutions of higher learning abroad

NORLA administrates the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ scheme for travel grants for authors and lecturers who will visit institutions of higher learning abroad where instruction is given in the Norwegian language.

Summer holidays at NORLA

NORLA’s offices are closed in July for our summer holidays.

NORLA Fellowship in Oslo 2025: Children and YA literature

Norway will be Guest of Honour at the Bologna Children´s Book Fair in 2026. NORLA invites foreign publishers and editors of children and YA literature to apply for our fellowship program, which this year will take place in Oslo from June 10 -13. The fellowship will focus on Norwegian children & YA literature. On the program will be visits to Norwegian publishing houses, presentations by Norwegian authors, meetings with literary agents, as well as an extensive social program in Oslo.

Translators of Norwegian literature to Lillehammer

NORLA is looking forward to gathering ten translators of Norwegian literature in Lillehammer, as we do annually for the Norwegian Festival of Literature / Sigrid Undset Days on June 3-6.
This year the festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and the theme of the program is Sápmi.
The festival runs from June 2 through June 8.

We look forward to welcoming a new group of translators to our Translator Hotel at Bondeheimen in Oslo, where they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Norwegian literature, language, and culture.
The spring session will take place from May 12–25, with four available spots.

Deadline: Nominate candidates for NORLA’s Translator's Award 2025

NORLA annually hands out an award to a talented emerging translator of Norwegian literature. The award is given for translations directly from Norwegian as an encouragement towards continued efforts.
The 2025 award will be given to a translator of fiction.
