Norway is Guest of Honour at the 2022 Warsaw Book Fair. Here readers are eager to not only attend author’s presentations, but also to buy books. And at the Norwegian tent, it is busy days for the booksellers of Moda na Czytanie, who offer Norwegian books in Polish translation. Here there are also long queues of readers waiting to have the authors sign their books.
We have met the three booksellers: Piotr Bagiński, Jacek Kochanowski and Violetta Wiśniewska, for an interview.

June sees the celebration of Pride Month worldwide and today is the first day of Oslo Pride, which will take place both in the city and online. On Saturday June 26 there will be a digital parade as well as a boat parade on the Oslo fjord.
At NORLA, we are happy to join in the celebration by sharing a selection of LGBT+ themed books available for children and young adults. Below we have included titles updated from last year’s list made by IBBY Norway (International Board on Books for Young People).

Norway is the Guest of Honour at the Book Fair in Warsaw, 26 –29 May 2022 and today the program was launched during the fair’s press conference in Warsaw.

The Book Fair is a good opportunity to present the breadth of Norwegian literature for the Polish book market. Here, 30 authors from Norway will meet their Polish readers.
Poland has become an important market for Norwegian literature and there is great interest in everything from crime and Nordic noir to children’s literature and comics. Polish literature also resonates in Norway. The guest country project emphasizes the common interest between our cultures and languages.

We celebrate the International Women’s Day by recommending three Norwegian books; a critically acclaimed and award-nominated novel, a new release and a handbook for the younger female readers.

In connection with H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon Magnus’ official visit to the USA from 5.-8. December, NORLA, along with Norway’s Consulate General in New York and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organised two literary events in New York. The delegation consisted of three authors and eight literary agents, whose presence, along with NORLA, breathed life into our important American trade relationships.

2020 was a year that has fully demonstrated how important books are to people. The written word provides knowledge, reading pleasure, art experiences, comfort and visions in times of change. From March, NORLA altered its plans for following up the 2019 Guest of Honour year – to the dissemination of literature digitally. Through a range of webinars, we facilitated author presentations, exchanges and networks between literary agents, editors and translators, in close collaboration with Norwegian embassies and consulates, among others. NORLA’s subsidy scheme for export and market initiatives will contribute to boosting exports, demand and market development for Norwegian books and authors abroad; thereby increasing revenue for the Norwegian literary agencies/publishers concerned. Since the scheme began in November 2019, we have received many strong applications. There are many initiatives being planned – and we are now ready to announce the first projects to be awarded grants this year.

In Norway, we are very proud of our brave literature for children and young adults, and many titles are available in English translation. And we are of course happy to present a small selection.
