International non-fiction editors to take the night train to Bergen

February 5-7, NORLA will host a seminar for 10 international non-fiction editors from seven countries: The Netherlands, France, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Russia and Canada.
Norwegian non-fiction has received a lot of international attention in recent years, and NORLA wants to take advantage of this trend by giving non-fiction literature an extra boost.

The international editors will meet Norwegian non-fiction authors, literary agents and editors in Oslo, before taking the train Thursday night across the mountains to Bergen to experience the city’s International Literary Festival.
This is a collaboration between NORLA and Bergen International Literary Festival.

Application deadline: Fellowship for publishers to the Norwegian Festival of Literature at Lillehammer, May 2020

We invite foreign publishers/editors, sub-agents and scouts to apply for participation in our seminar at the Norwegian Festival of Literature in Lillehammer, May 2020. This year, the focus will be on literature for children and young adults.
The fellowship program is organised by NORLA in collaboration with the Norwegian Publishers’ Association, and supported financially by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The fellowship program runs from 26 to 29 May 2020.
The application deadline is 31 January 2020.

NORLA to meet Nordic colleagues in Oslo

NORLA will this year be hosting the annual seminar with our Nordic colleagues, January 15-17.
The employees at the Nordic literary offices – the NordLit network – meet annually, and this year the meeting will take place in Oslo.

We look forward to exchanging experiences and future plans with our colleagues!

The Nordic literary offices all administer The Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding scheme for the translation of literature and drama from one Nordic language to another. Read more about the scheme here.

Touring exhibition on Norwegian book illustration returns to Oslo

In connection with Norway being a Guest of Honour at the Frankfurter Buchmesse in 2019, NORLA and Grafill collaborated on a touring exhibition with Norwegian book illustrations. As a finale, the exhibition is now coming to Norway, and Grafill’s premises in Oslo and will be on display January 9 – February 2.
The exhibition "Georg Grosz meets Mulysses on Slush Mountain. Modern illustration from Norway” includes work by eleven Norwegian illustrators, selected from a variety of new Norwegian picture books for both children and adults, all of which can be found in books that are translated and available in German.

During 2019, the exhibition has been shown in a number of cities in Germany and Switzerland: Berlin (2 times), Bremen, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Zofingen and Wohlen.

Book trade meeting in Moscow

On Wednesday, December 11, NORLA and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Moscow will be hosting a half-day seminar on Norwegian non-fiction aimed at Russian publishers, publishers and translators. The programme will give the Russian participants an introduction to the non-fiction field by NORLA, as well as presentations by authors Thomas Reinertsen Berg and Torbjørn Ekelund.

NORLA and author Hanne Ørstavik to attend book fair in Guadalajara, Mexico

The book fair in Guadalajara is the largest in the Spanish speaking world − and on the whole, one of the most pleasantly enjoyable fairs. NORLA will this year again take part in the Guadalajara International Book Fair.

Hanne Ørstavik is also invited to attend the book fair. Her novel Love (Amor) was published in Spanish by the publisher Antonio Vallardi editor in 2018, translated by Lotte Katrine Tollefsen.

A new season at NORLA's Translator Hotel

We look forward to welcoming four new translators of Norwegian literature to NORLA’s translator hotel at the Hotel Bondeheimen in Oslo.
Autumn will be the elecenth season of this popular scheme.

Switzerland

Norway’s guest of honour status continues – in Zofingen, Switzerland!

Norway is also guest of honour at the Literaturtage Zofingen, and seven Norwegian authors are invited to take part in the festival, which is entirely devoted to Norwegian literature. Audience members are expected to travel there from all over Switzerland. The travelling exhibition, “Georg Grosz meets Ulysses in Slapsefjell,” consisting of no fewer than 30 works by 11 Norwegian illustrators will be shown at the Kunsthaus.

The Norwegian Guest of Honour project is Norway’s largest cultural export project ever.
