In connection with their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s visit to Germany in November, NORLA and the Norwegian Embassy in Berlin are organizing a book trade meeting for the Norwegian and German publishing and bookselling industry in cooperation with the German Börsenverein.
This will also mark the beginning of Norway’s upcoming Guest of Honour initiative in Leipzig 2025!
As part of the preparations for Norway’s Guest of Honour participation in the Cairo Book Fair in January, NORLA will be attending the Sharjah International Book Fair in the United Arab Emirates from October 29th to 31st. This is an important rights fair that will provide a broad network and overview of the entire Arabic-language publishing world.
NORLA will participate in the book fair’s publishers conference, which is aimed at the part of the international and Arabic language publishing industry involved in rights sales.

The Norwegian Embassy in Beijing is inviting seven Chinese journalists/writers/influencers to Oslo and Bergen to promote Norwegian literature and culture. October 16th is dedicated to literature.
The guests will visit the Deichman library and the Future Library forest, and will also be coming to NORLA for a briefing on NORLA’s work and literature from Norway.
As part of the preparations for Norway’s role of Guest of Honor in Cairo in 2024, we organized a seminar for established and potential translators into Arabic in early summer this year. The goal was to encourage more people to translate into Arabic. The seminar was very successful, with many enthusiastic participants, and on Thursday, October 12th, we are organizing a follow-up seminar for the participants. Speakers are Anette Garpestad from Cappelen Damm Agency and translator Mohammad Habeeb.
Meeting of NORLA’s expert committee for fiction, for the consideration of applications for translation subsidies with deadline 1 August.
NORLA, in collaboration with the Scandinavian Center at Tbilisi State University (TSU), is organizing a translator’s seminar for students and translators in Tbilisi.
On the first day, students will receive an introduction to Norwegian literature and participate in a workshop translating a text from Norwegian to Georgian. Elisabeth Beanca Halvorsen will participate as an author from Norway.
On day two, we will focus on collaborative translation and translation from Georgian to Norwegian. This part of the seminar is organized in collaboration with the Norwegian Association of Literary Translators (Norsk Oversetterforening).
The Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University in Belgrade is organizing an exhibition of Nordic children’s and YA literature translated into Serbian from October 2nd to 8th. They are hosting several smaller events in connection with the exhibition, including panel discussions, book launches, and lectures for students. One of the collaborators is the Norwegian Embassy in Belgrade.

Authors’ Reading Month is a large-scale traveling festival which runs for 31 days from July 1. The project is a collaboration between literature offices in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
This year, 31 Norwegian authors have been invited to participate consecutively in the festival.
The authors will be touring four cities; Brno and Ostrava in the Czech Republic, and Bratislava and Kosice in Slovakia, and will also participate digitally in Lviv, Ukraine.
The authors will appear along with one local author (Czech or Slovak) and travel from city to city.
