Foreign publishers may also apply for production subsidies for the publication of Norwegian non-fiction containing a large number of illustrations or with exceptionally demanding technical production requirements.

Jaipur Literary Festival, India

NORLA is present at the Jaipur Literary Festival!
This is said to be the world’s largest free literary festival, with an overwhelming number of writers, participants and audience from India and all the rest of the world. This year the Nordic countries are especially invited, and a number of Nordic writers will participate. From Norway Odd Harald Hauge is coming, on the occasion that Yatra books publishes his crime novel Everest in English, translated by Siân Mackie.

A sideprogram at the festival is BookMark, where publishers and book business people from all over India and the rest of the world meet to discuss issues relevant for the business. There will also be opportunity to present Norwegian books and authors to the Indian publishing industry.
BookMark is supported by the Norwegian Embassy in Delhi, and Ambassador Nils Ragnar Kamsvåg and others from the embassy will be present.

Children’s Books Salon in New York City

The New York office of the Frankfurter Buchmesse, together with Publishing Perspectives, will host the first two-day Children’s Books Salon in New York City.

The aim of the salon is to build a platform where international children’s book publishers can meet each other in person, strengthen their international relationships, learn about new titles, and discuss issues specific to the children’s book market.

Fiction publishers to Norway

NORLA received the sixth group of international publishers who were in Norway to be introduced to Norwegian writers and the Norwegian book industry. This time we invited publishers from the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany. The publishers saw a large number of presentations and returned home with many positive impressions and experiences – inspired to discover new authors.

NORLA to meet Nordic colleagues in Reykjavik, Iceland

Several of NORLA’s staff will be out of office January 16-19, attending a seminar with our Nordic colleagues.
The employees at the Nordic literary offices meet annually, and this year the meeting will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland.

We look forward to exchanging experiences and future plans with our colleagues!

The Nordic literary offices all administer The Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding scheme for the translation of literature and drama from one Nordic language to another. Read more about the scheme here.

Application deadline: Author and lecturer visits to institutions of higher learning abroad

NORLA administrates the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ scheme for travel grants for authors and lecturers who will visit institutions of higher learning abroad where instruction is given in the Norwegian language.
