Nordic translators seminar and authors at the Helsinki Book fair

The Nordic countries are in focus at this year’s Helsinki Book fair, and numerous Nordic authors will take part in the fair’s program.
Along with our Nordic colleagues in the NordLit-network, NORLA will host a translators seminar on children’s and young adult literature.
The seminar has received funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers.

NORLA to attend Frankfurt Book Fair

This year we are looking forward in particular to the Frankfurt Book Fair, since the countdown for Norway as the fair’s Guest of Honour nation in 2019 has begun!
We will also be celebrating NORLA’s 25th participation at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

This year is also the first time the entire Norwegian book industry will be gathered at one large, joint stand at the book fair.

Application deadline: NORLA’s development programme for new literary voices

NORLA hereby invites the editorial staffs of all publishing houses in Norway to nominate candidates for our development programme for new literary voices.
The programme is a part of the Frankfurt 2019 initiative, in the context of which the discovery and promotion of new literary voices is an important objective.
The programme is funded by Talent Norway and the Norwegian Publishers Association, while NORLA is responsible for its implementation.
The deadline for nominations from editorial staffs is 10.10.2016.

Application deadline: NORLA seeks project manager for Norway as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2019

JOB OPENING:
The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world’s largest meeting place for literature. Every year the book fair singles out one nation for special profiling. In 2019 Norway will be Guest of Honour. We are looking for a project manager who will have primary responsibility for the planning and implementation of this unique international culture initiative.

The deadline for applications is 10.10.2016.

Awarding of NORLA’s Translator’s Award, 29 September

During the celebration in Oslo of St. Hieronymus Day, International Translation Day, we will announce the winner of NORLA’s Translator’s Award. The award will be conferred for the 11th time this year and will go to a non-fiction translator.

Norwegian participation at large children’s book conference in London

The Bookseller Children’s Conference will take place on 27 September in London, and among the 250 conference participants are four Norwegian editors and NORLA’s Dina Roll-Hansen.
Attendance is sponsored by the Nordic Council of Ministers and children’s book editors from all the Nordic countries will take part.

Agnes Ravatn in Stirling

Meet author Agnes Ravatn at the festival Bloody Scotland in Stirling, September 11, 2016.

The novel The Bird Tribunal (Fugletribunalet) has won her many enthusiastic readers as well as awards.
It was also made into a successful play, which premiered in Oslo in 2015, and foreign rights to the novel are so far sold to seven countries. The Bird Tribunal is translated from the Norwegian by Rosie Hedger and published by Orenda Books through translation subsidy from NORLA.

At the festival, Agnes Ravatn takes part in the event Northern Lights, at Sunday 11 September from 3:15 pm – 4:15 pm.

Håkon Øvreås in Berlin

Meet Håkon Øvreås at the Internationales Literaturfestival in Berlin.
Håkon Øvreås is a poet and the author of the award-winning children’s book BRUNE (Brown), illustrated by Øyvind Torseter.
At the festival’s International Children’s and Young Adult Literature section BRUNE will be presented as a collection of aesthetically remarkable picture books
seen as examples of how innovative and challenging contemporary children’s books can be.

“Super-Bruno” is translated from the Norwegian by Angelika Kutsch, and published by Hanser Verlag through subsidy from NORLA.

Øvreås will be taking part in several events during the children’s festival: September 7, 8, 9 and 11.
He will also be taking part in a poetry night, September 9.

Fifth season of NORLA’s translators hotel

At NORLA we are pleased about the overwhelming response to our offer of stays at the translators hotel for translators who translate directly from Norwegian. This autumn four lucky applicants will be awarded two-week stays simultaneously in Oslo at Hotell Bondeheimen.
This will be the translators hotel’s fifth season.

Odd Harald Hauge at the Mountain Echoes festival in Bhutan

Meet author, entrepreneur and adventurer Odd Harald Hauge at the Mountain Echoes-festival in Bhutan, August 26.
He takes part in two different events, and will be presenting his crime fiction novel Everest as well as giving a lecture on internet journalism.
Foreign rights to Haugen’s book Everest were recently sold to the Indian publisher Yatra Books, who will publish the book in Bengali, English, Hindi and Marathi.
