NORLA to meet Nordic colleagues in Helsinki, Finland

Representatives from NORLA’s staff will be attending a seminar with our Nordic colleagues, January 16-18.
The employees at the Nordic literary offices meet annually, and this year the meeting will take place in Helsinki, Finland.

We look forward to exchanging experiences and future plans with our colleagues!

The Nordic literary offices all administer The Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding scheme for the translation of literature and drama from one Nordic language to another. Read more about the scheme here.

Application deadline: Author and lecturer visits to institutions of higher learning abroad

NORLA administrates the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ scheme for travel grants for authors and lecturers who will visit institutions of higher learning abroad where instruction is given in the Norwegian language.

Literature Go Global to New York

From January 14-18th, the Literature Go Global group and seven Norwegian literary agencies will be in New York City as part of the competence program for Literature Go Global, where they will participate in an extensive program, along with US agents, scouts, publishers, bookstores and other industry figures, for a unique insight into the US book market.
Literature Go Global is a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, Innovation Norway and NORLA. The New York program is organised in collaboration with the Frankfurt Book Fair’s New York office.

Book trade meeting in Copenhagen

On Thursday, December 6th, a new book trade meeting for Danish publishers will be held at the residens of the Norwegian embassy in Copenhagen. The focus will this time be on children’s books.

Five Norwegian authors will present their works, and Siri Odfjell from Sølvberget bibliotek og kulturhus in Stavanger will give an introduction to Norwegian literature for children and young adults. There will also be time for the attending Danish publishers to speed-date with Norwegian literary agents.

Eight Norwegian Names at the German Literature Festival "Stadt Land Buch"

From 10.-16. November 2018 the twenty-seventh Stadt Land Buch Festival will take place in Berlin and Brandenburg. This year’s guest: The Nordic countries!

The eight Norwegian names in this year’s program are (top row, from the left): authors Gard Sveen, Øyvind Torseter, Ylva Østby and Hilde Østby, Erling Kagge (bottom row, from the left): Ulrik Farestad, architect Reiulf Ramstad and author Ketil Bjørnstad.

New and Old Voices to Japan

NORLA will be hosting several events in Japan, in cooperation with the Norwegian embassy in Tokyo, and the universities of Osaka.
Two participants from our New Voices program, Linn Strømsborg and Monica Isakstuen, will be taking part in addition to translators Anne Lande Peters and NORLA’s co-workers Oliver Møystad and Dina Roll-Hansen. The events in Japan are following up NORLA’s activities in Tokyo in 2016.

A prerequisite is that the project applied for must be tied with a German partner, and must take place in Germany in 2019.

NORLA and author Torkil Damhaug to Innovation Norway's press events in Zürich and Hamburg

Innovation Norway (Innovasjon Norge) will be hosting events for their press contacts in Zürich October 23 and in Hamburg October 24. Topics on the agenda are literature and culture. Author Torkil Damhaug has been invited to give a talk on Norway as an exciting destination for culture tourists. And NORLA’s Andrine Pollen will present Norway’s Guest of Honour-project ahead of the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2019.

A new season at NORLA's Translator Hotel

We look forward to welcoming four new translators of Norwegian literature to NORLA’s translator hotel at the Hotel Bondeheimen in Oslo.
Autumn will be the ninth season of this popular scheme.

NORLA to the Swiss festival Literaturtage Zofingen

Andrine Pollen will take part in the festival Literaturtage Zofingen in Switzerland to present Norway’s Guest of Honour-project at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2019.
Georgia is this year’s Guest of Honour in Frankfurt, and also in Zofingen. Read more (in German) here.
