The fourth batch of authors in NORLA’s talent development program “New Voices” meet for the start of the semester

On Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th of August, the autumn participants of NORLA’s New Voices program will meet for the first time. Autumn’s New Voices are Linn Strømsborg, Alfred Fidjestøl, Thomas Reinertsen Berg, Ingunn Thon and Monica Isakstuen. The five will receive a good introduction to the international book market and the Frankfurt initiative from NORLA’s director Margit Walsø, and also a look at presentation technique from actor and translator Erik Skuggevik before being thrown into meetings with translators, audiences and publishers across large areas of Europe in the autumn – some will also visit Japan.

NORLA to attend the Haugesund Film Festival

Senior Adviser Oliver Møystad has been invited to take part in the seminar Books at Haugesund during The Haugesund Film Festival.
The seminar is designed as a meeting place where the book and film trades will join forces and speak about books that can be transposed from text into film.
Ten Nordic titles will be pitched by their literary agents at the seminar.

August 1 is the application deadline for translators of Norwegian literature regarding stays at NORLA’s Translators hotel autumn 2018 (weeks 43-44, i.e. as of Monday October 22nd through Sunday November 4th).

Application deadline: Author and lecturer visits to institutions of higher learning abroad

NORLA administrates the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ scheme for travel grants for authors and lecturers who will visit institutions of higher learning abroad where instruction is given in the Norwegian language.

Book trade event, Vienna

At June 14, NORLA will host a book trade event at the Norwegian Embassy in Vienna for invited publishers, press and literature contacts. Author Ivo de Figueiredo will present himself and his books. NORLA will inform about Norwegian literature, about the publishing industry and about the Guest of Honour project ahead of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2019.

Norwegian-Finnish Agent Exchange

The intriguing title Finnish-Norwegian agent exchange is not the name on a novel by Le Carré, but a cooperating project between NORLA and FILI – Finnish Literature Exchange. Norwegian literary agents can apply for a two days stay in Helsinki, where they can meet Finnish publishers who are interested in Norwegian books. Finnish agents can go on a similar trip to Oslo.
The visit in Helsinki will take place on June 11-12, the visit in Oslo on June 14-15.

Lecturers’ Meeting, Kiel

Every year, NORLA contributes to around 30 author and lecturer visits to foreign universities which teach Norwegian. No other country has as many centres of higher education, teaching Norwegian, as Germany. This June in Kiel, all of Germany’s Norwegian lecturers will meet for a large conference. NORLA will be participating in order to inform those present about our commitments in Germany over the next two of years.

Translator Workshop, Cluj

Author Lotta Elstad are participating in a translation workshop at the University of Cluj, Romania, where there is an active Norwegian community.

Elstad is one of five writers participating in NORLA’s “New Voices” program this spring.
