NORLA and author Torkil Damhaug to Innovation Norway's press events in Zürich and Hamburg

Innovation Norway (Innovasjon Norge) will be hosting events for their press contacts in Zürich October 23 and in Hamburg October 24. Topics on the agenda are literature and culture. Author Torkil Damhaug has been invited to give a talk on Norway as an exciting destination for culture tourists. And NORLA’s Andrine Pollen will present Norway’s Guest of Honour-project ahead of the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2019.

A new season at NORLA's Translator Hotel

We look forward to welcoming four new translators of Norwegian literature to NORLA’s translator hotel at the Hotel Bondeheimen in Oslo.
Autumn will be the ninth season of this popular scheme.

NORLA to the Swiss festival Literaturtage Zofingen

Andrine Pollen will take part in the festival Literaturtage Zofingen in Switzerland to present Norway’s Guest of Honour-project at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2019.
Georgia is this year’s Guest of Honour in Frankfurt, and also in Zofingen. Read more (in German) here.

Application deadline: NORLA’s development programme for new literary voices

NORLA hereby invites the editorial staffs of all publishing houses and literary agents in Norway to nominate candidates for the fifth group of authors in our development program “New Voices”.
The programme forms part of the commitment to Frankfurt 2019, where an important objective is to develop new writers’ voices.
The programme is funded by Talent Norway and The Norwegian Publishers Association, while NORLA is responsible for its implementation.

NORLA and Norwegian events at the Frankfurter Buchmesse

Norway officially becomes Guest of Honour during the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2018. NORLA will, of course, be part of the Norwegian book industry’s exhibition stand in hall 5.0, A53, where we will also present autumn’s selected titles.
There will be several great events with Norwegian authors and also musicians.
We are also very excited that Norway’s Minister of Culture, Trine Skei Grande and State Secretary for the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marianne Hagen, will take part in this year’s bookfair.

NORLA will be accompanied by author organisations and Norwegian institutions that want to become more familiar with the Frankfurt Book Fair. And we will also host events for the German booksellers and journalists who have visited Norway earlier this year.

We are looking forward to welcome old and new contacts!

Foreign publishers may also apply for production subsidies for the publication of Norwegian non-fiction containing a large number of illustrations or with exceptionally demanding technical production requirements.

As usual NORLA will be taking part at the Göteborg Book Fair and we will be available at the International Rights Center, at table number 75.

Publishers, agents and translators abroad and in Norway can apply to NORLA for subsidies for sample translations.

NOTE that agents and publishers in Norway can also apply to NORLA, for support for extended sample translations; made possible by funds from the Ministry of Culture as a step towards making Norwegian literature exports an industry.

Publishers’ seminar and public event in Madrid

On 13 September NORLA and the Norwegian embassy in Madrid will host a seminar for Spanish and Catalan publishers in Madrid. Three Norwegian authors – Erlend Loe, Kjersti Annesdatter Skomsvold and Thomas Reinertsen Berg will be there to talk about their most recent books.
Norwegian agents will also be present to meet the publishers.

Nordic Literature Festival in Moscow

The highly reputed magazine Inostrannaja Literatura (International Literature) is publishing a special issue focussing on Nordic literature, and to mark the occasion, a mini-festival will take place featuring Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic and Danish writers.

The fourth batch of authors in NORLA’s talent development program “New Voices” meet for the start of the semester

On Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th of August, the autumn participants of NORLA’s New Voices program will meet for the first time. Autumn’s New Voices are Linn Strømsborg, Alfred Fidjestøl, Thomas Reinertsen Berg, Ingunn Thon and Monica Isakstuen. The five will receive a good introduction to the international book market and the Frankfurt initiative from NORLA’s director Margit Walsø, and also a look at presentation technique from actor and translator Erik Skuggevik before being thrown into meetings with translators, audiences and publishers across large areas of Europe in the autumn – some will also visit Japan.
